In this episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Leanna Orr. Leanna Orr is an award-winning financial journalist and currently an Editor at Pageant Media. Prior to that she was an editor for Institutional Investor. In 2018, she and her co-deputy became the first women to run II’s newsroom since the publication’s founding in 1967. Canadian by background, Leanna has been based in New York City since 2011, where she earned her Master’s degree at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Her work has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Barron’s, Vice, and various academic studies.

Value Investing Works with Lauren Templeton [Ep. 13]
Thursday Oct 21, 2021
Thursday Oct 21, 2021
In this episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Lauren Templeton. In a recent article on Fortune titled, "Value stocks are unloved, unsexy, and poised to make a killing over the next decade", the author hits on a familiar trope that most folks in finance have been saying for a while and begs the question - why are value stocks unloved and unsexy right now? I wanted to understand this point better and why value investing works - there's no one better to help in this pursuit than Lauren.
Quick background:
Lauren Templeton is the founder and president of Templeton and Phillips Capital Management, LLC. Lauren received a B.A. Degree in Economics from the University of the South. Lauren currently serves on the Board of Trustees at the Baylor School.
Lauren is the Independent Director for Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited, Fairfax India Holdings Corporation, and Canadian Solar, Inc. Lauren is the great niece of Sir John M. Templeton and is a current member of the John M. Templeton Foundation, the Templeton World Charities Foundation and a Trustee of Templeton Religion Trust. Professionally speaking, Lauren began her career working with managed portfolios and investments in 1998, beginning as a junior associate at the financial advisor Homrich and Berg and later the hedge fund management company New Providence Advisors both of Atlanta, GA. In 2001, Lauren founded Templeton Capital Management with seed capital from Sir John Templeton in a long/short equity hedge fund. That same year Lauren was the founder and president of the Southeastern Hedge Fund Association, based in Atlanta, GA.

Thursday Sep 30, 2021
Thursday Sep 30, 2021
In this episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Perth Tolle. China, Evergrande, tech crackdown have been taking up all the headlines in financial media. Despite China not technically being an emerging market, most funds, institutions and investors say they have exposure to emerging markets vis a vis China. I invited Perth Tolle on to break down all the China noise out there and why they are not included as part of the Life + Liberty Indexes.
Quick background: Perth Tolle is the founder of Life + Liberty Indexes and creator of the Freedom 100 EM Index (FRDM index). Prior to forming Life + Liberty Indexes, Perth was a private wealth advisor at Fidelity Investments in Los Angeles and Houston. Prior to Fidelity, Perth lived and worked in Beijing and Hong Kong, where her observations led her to explore the relationship between freedom and markets.
Perth is a frequent speaker at investment industry events and provides commentary for various financial media including Barron’s, Bloomberg, CNBC, Cheddar, and MarketWatch.
Perth was named one of the Ten to Watch in 2020 by Wealth Management Magazine for her work on freedom investing.
